Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) Statement on the President’s Budget

“The president deserves an A+ for his national parks proposal. This is a very big idea. It would provide $100 million per year for operations and maintenance of the 390 parks across the country and up to $100 million more in matching funds if private groups invest in our parks. “The rest of the good news is that the president proposed more funding for scientific research at places like Oak Ridge National Laboratory that help create new jobs in Tennessee, more funding for Pell Grants to help low-income students attend college and enough money to keep Chickamauga Lock construction on track. “On the whole, this is a very tight budget that restrains funding and puts us on a course to balance the budget in five years. “As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I will review the president's proposals on education, transportation and health care to determine whether or not I agree with his priorities and to see that Tennessee is treated fairly.”
