U.S. Senators Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Bob Corker (R-TN) today praised the announcement that Fentress County has been authorized for public assistance from the federal government. Today’s announcement means a total of 17 Tennessee counties have been authorized to receive some form of federal aid in response to the deadly storms that hit the state earlier this month. Benton, Fayette, Fentress, Hardin, Haywood, Hickman, Houston, Lewis, Macon, Madison, McNairy, Montgomery, Perry, Shelby, Sumner, Trousdale, and Williamson counties are eligible for federal assistance to help Tennesseans and area businesses trying to rebuild. “The addition of Fentress County to the disaster declaration will give the local government the resources it needs to help more Tennesseans recover from this life-altering tragedy,” said Alexander. “The response to these tornadoes was immediate, and I believe that Governor Bredesen and President Bush have done a great job providing assistance to help these communities recover. I will continue to work with the Tennessee delegation to ensure that everything is being done to rebuild after this catastrophe.” “Today’s announcement is good news for citizens in Fentress County who have suffered losses as a result of the deadly tornadoes that hit our state earlier this month,” said Corker. “During this time of grief for so many people in our state, we've also seen something uplifting: FEMA, TEMA, various local agencies and volunteers have responded to this disaster in incredible ways and with unprecedented cooperation. Senator Alexander and I will continue doing all we can to respond to Tennesseans in this time of need.” Residents and business owners with losses in the designated counties can apply for assistance by calling 1-800-621-FEMA or by registering online at Citizens are also encouraged to call Alexander’s and Corker’s local offices for assistance in navigating federal aid.
