Alexander Statement on Keystone XL, Omnibus Votes

Posted on December 17, 2011

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement on today’s votes in the Senate:

“The Keystone XL pipeline creates 100,000 jobs and increases our energy independence, the funding bill stays within spending controls that will save $2.1 trillion over ten years, and the two-month tax holiday is paid for by reducing other spending so that it does not add to the federal debt.”

The Senate voted on and passed:

· legislation to temporarily extend the payroll-tax cut and unemployment benefits, as well as force the administration to make a quick decision on the Keystone XL pipeline

· the so-called omnibus appropriations bill to fund the federal government through next September, legislation that reduces spending over last year and is consistent with the Budget Control Act passed this summer

· disaster-relief funding
