IMMIGRATION: Alexander's Statement on the Byrd Amendment (SA 4127) to the Immigration Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) issued the following statement today after voting for an amendment to the immigration reform bill offered by Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV) which imposes an additional $500 fee on certain immigrants with the money to be used to pay for border security functions: “It is imperative that we secure our borders and Sen. Byrd’s amendment is a common sense approach to helping fund that effort.” The Byrd amendment passed by a vote of 73-25.
