Nomination cleared by full Senate on day one of Trump Administration

WASHINGTON, January 20 — U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement on his vote to confirm General John Kelly to serve as U.S. Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security:

“General John Kelly is thoroughly qualified to serve as Secretary of Homeland Security. During his 45 years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps, he has developed the skills required to address the many issues he will face as Secretary, including terrorist organizations, immigration, cross-border disputes, and drug trafficking. General Kelly is well-respected by both parties and has a reputation for being forthright in his dealings with Congress.”
