WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement on his vote against cutting off debate on the Small Business Lending bill:
“While I support the bill’s tax incentives for America’s job-creating small businesses, I can’t support creating yet another lending fund that turns the Treasury Department into our national bank. The Senate majority has shut down what could have been a good bipartisan bill by not allowing debate or Republican amendments.”
The Senate majority needed 60 votes to cut off debate and move to a final vote on the measure; the vote to invoke cloture and end debate failed, 58-42.
