WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) made the following statement today after voting against an amendment which adds new sanctions on Iran against the wishes of Secretary of State Rice, and for an amendment supporting the Bush administration’s current policy efforts to negotiate with Iran: “President Bush and our European allies are engaged in careful negotiations with Iran. Now is not the time for Congress to tie the President’s hands.” ###
