Statement of Sen. Alexander - Medicare bill

Posted on November 25, 2003

In my campaign for the Senate I said I would vote for a prescription drug benefit that seniors could afford and the country could afford. I did that today. Give Bill Frist credit. It would not have happened without his leadership. This prescription drug benefit will be available to all Tennesseans over 65 years of age. It is voluntary. It gives the most help to those with the lowest incomes and highest drug costs. Benefits begin in April. The bill also helps Tennessee physicians and hospitals and takes important steps to modernize Medicare. One of the most important parts of the legislation is a new Health Savings Account, permitting Tennesseans of all ages to save money, tax-free, to pay for medical expenses.
