WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander today announced that Michelle Rodriguez has joined his staff as deputy press secretary. Rodriguez previously served as communications director for the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (TDCI). "We continue to assemble a strong team, and I am pleased Michelle has joined our staff," Alexander said. "The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance is often involved in a wide range of complicated issues, and she has gained valuable experience communicating those issues to Tennesseans." Rodriguez, 26, serves as a spokesperson for Sen. Alexander's office and will assist in media operations in Tennessee and Washington. "I am honored to be a part of Senator Alexander's team, and I look forward to working with him and his staff in communicating his vision and goals for the state of Tennessee and this country," Rodriguez said. Before serving as TDCI communications director, Rodriguez was a public information officer for the department. She joined the Sundquist administration in June 2000 as public fire information officer for the Tennessee State Fire Marshal's Office. Prior to that, she served four years as an assistant web designer and statistical analyst for the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs at Florida International University. A Miami native, Rodriguez is a 1999 graduate of Florida International University in Miami, Fla., where she received a bachelor of science in communication with a concentration in public relations.
