MARYVILLE, Tenn., July 3, 2018 – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement in celebration of Independence Day this coming Wednesday:

“Nearly 250 years ago, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence – a statement to the world that all men are created equal and endowed by our Creator with the inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It’s easy to turn on cable news or talk radio and hear about all the things that are wrong with our country, but today we remember the rich history of our nation and what a remarkable privilege it is to be an American. We especially honor the brave men and women who have fought and sacrificed for our freedom, and those who are currently fighting to keep us safe and free."
