WASHINGTON— U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander today announced that his Jackson office is up and running and has named Linda Long as constituent services representative and Matt Varino as his field representative. "Linda and Matt will be outstanding representatives for me in Jackson," Alexander said. "They will serve the people of Tennessee well, and I am glad to have the office open for business." Before joining Alexander's staff, Long, 57, worked as a caseworker in Sen. Fred Thompson's Jackson office. With over 18 years of management experience, Long has served 15 years as manager of compensation and benefits for Bendix Corporation and four years as director of human resources for the city of Jackson. "It is an honor for me to work on behalf of constituents in their dealings with federal agencies," Long said. "I look forward to representing Senator Alexander's initiatives to the communities in Jackson." An Alabama native, Long is a former co-chair of Goals for Jackson and a five-year member of the board of directors for Jackson-Madison County Boys and Girls Club. Long has also served two terms on the Madison County Commission. She lives in Oakfield and has three children and four grandchildren. Varino, 29, earned degrees in political science from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, with his masters' emphasis in American government and international relations. Varino served as an assistant treasurer for Alexander's senate campaign, and for Tennesseans for Sen. Fred Thompson's Nashville office in 2001. He lives in Jackson with his wife, Meredith. "After working in Senator Alexander's successful Senate campaign, it is an honor and a privilege to continue working with him to benefit the people of West Tennessee," Varino said.
