NASHVILLE, Jan. 16, 2014 – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today made the following statement to commemorate the Martin Luther King, Jr. federal holiday on Monday, January 19:

“Today we honor the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who changed our nation forever. I remember standing on the National Mall listening to Dr. King speak of his dream of children not being judged 'by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.' Today we continue to honor the impact of his nonviolent struggle to end racial inequality and his courageous work that gave hope for every citizen to have the opportunity to achieve the American dream.”
