Alexander: New Law Will Help Improve Justice System, Reform Prisons

WASHINGTON, December 21, 2018 — United States Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement after President Trump signed the First Step Act, bipartisan prison reform legislation he cosponsored that was introduced by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa):

“This new law will help improve the federal criminal justice system and reform federal prisons. Senator Grassley, working with the Trump Administration, has led this important legislation to take first steps to help non-violent offenders re-enter their communities and reduce the likelihood that they would commit another crime.”
