Statement of U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander on today’s decision by the Supreme Court in Massachusetts v. EPA, in which the Court held that carbon dioxide is a pollutant under the Clean Air Act and that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) must consider regulating it: "The most appropriate legislative response would be a four-pollutant bill, such as the bipartisan legislation Sen. Carper and I coauthored in the last Congress, which would codify the EPA’s strict new standards for sulfur and nitrogen pollutants, set a high mercury standard, and begin carbon caps on power plants."
