WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, issued the following statement on the Obama Administration's lawsuit against Arizona over the state's immigration law:

“Instead of suing Arizona, the president ought to work with the governor to secure the border now. That's his job. He's the commander in chief. It's a federal responsibility. And, for a long-term solution, the president and Congress should enact a truly secure work card that employers could require of employees before hiring them.”
