U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today made the following statement on the passing of Nelson Andrews:
“In 1984 as governor, I asked Nelson to chair our new state board of education. He was already terribly busy,” said Alexander. “But no volunteer worked harder than he did to help improve our schools. During the last forty years, no one did more than Nelson to help make Nashville a better place, and he did it all quietly."
