NASHVILLE – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement on his vote yesterday to approve an amendment offered by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) that would end taxpayer funding of national party conventions:
“At a time when Washington is borrowing 40 cents of every dollar it spends, Washington has no business spending taxpayer dollars on our political party conventions. Solving our budget problems will require many difficult decisions by Congress – but this should be an easy one.”
Coburn’s amendment to the farm bill was approved by a vote of 95-4. The farm bill itself was passed by the Senate on Thursday.
