Alexander Statement on Senate Passage of Bill to Fund Government Through March 18; Reduces Spending by $4 Billion Over Two Weeks

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today made the following statement about the Senate’s passage of H.J. Res 44, a “continuing resolution” that would keep the government open and funded through March 18 while reducing federal spending by $4 billion over the next two weeks:

“Today we took a first step toward reducing government spending. At a time when Washington is borrowing 40 cents of every dollar it spends, Congress should take a hard look at the entire budget and focus on the nation’s priorities as we develop a longer-term plan to cut our debt, which is choking economic growth and stifling job creation.”
