Posted on April 1, 2008

Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, made the following remarks regarding an agreement to move forward on housing legislation: “The bipartisan agreement reached by Republican and Democratic leaders to allow a fair debate on housing legislation is exactly how the Senate ought to work. We have an opportunity to bring the best ideas to the floor and make real progress for the American people on this problem. In the past few months, the Senate has produced legislation on issues ranging from energy to terrorist surveillance to economic stimulus when we have put policy before politics and debated the issues. Our ultimate goal is to produce good policy that helps families and jump-starts the economy.” ###
