WASHINGTON, D.C., Feb. 14, 2019 — United States Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement on his vote to confirm William Barr to serve as U.S. Attorney General:

“I know Bill Barr very well, and I'm glad he was confirmed. He will be an excellent attorney general. Bill Barr was the attorney general for President George H.W. Bush when I was President Bush’s education secretary. He was widely respected, he showed great intelligence and integrity, and he showed that he understood that the job of the attorney general is to be the attorney for the United States, not just for the president of the United States.

The U.S. Senate confirmed William Barr’s nomination today by a vote of 54 to 45.
