Alexander: Senate Confirms Gina Haspel to Serve as Director of the CIA

WASHINGTON, May 17, 2018 — U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement after he voted to confirm Gina Haspel to serve as the director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA):

“Gina Haspel is a widely respected career intelligence officer who has served over 30 years in the CIA. Her experience and continued dedication to our nation’s security makes Ms. Haspel an extremely qualified candidate for this critical position. At a time when our nation faces widespread security challenges, it is important we have a leader like Ms. Haspel, who is fit for the role.”

Today, the Senate confirmed Ms. Haspel by a vote of 54-45.
