WASHINGTON, February 28, 2019 – United States Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement after the Senate confirmed John Ryder of Tennessee to serve on the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Board of Directors:

“John Ryder is a respected leader in Shelby County and in our state.  I was glad to recommend that President Trump nominate John for the TVA Board, and despite being unanimously confirmed by the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, Senate Democrats inexcusably held up his confirmation for more than a year. John is the right person to help keep TVA on a good path – he understands that TVA’s mission is to continue to provide clean, reliable electricity at the lowest possible rates for homes and businesses throughout the seven-state Tennessee Valley region. I look forward to working with him as a member of the Board.”

Alexander introduced Ryder at his confirmation hearing before the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works on March 20, 2018. The Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works approved Ryder’s nomination on May 22, 2018 and then again on February 5 of this year.
