Alexander: “Strong, Bipartisan Congressional Support” for Trump Administration Step to Add Prices to Prescription Drug Ads
Posted on October 15, 2018
Maryville, Tenn., October 15, 2018 — Senate health committee Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement on the Trump Administration’s proposed rule to add prices to prescription drug advertisements:
“There is strong, bipartisan congressional support for this Trump Administration step to reduce prescription drug prices. The more consumers know about drug prices the more likely those prices are to be lower. I suggest that pharmaceutical companies expend their energy working with the administration and Congress to implement this proposed rule effectively rather than opposing it.”
Alexander has held a series of Senate health committee hearings this Congress on how to reduce health care costs.
At the first hearing of the series, the committee set the stage on how much health care costs, at the second hearing, the committee explored ways to reduce unnecessary health care spending, at the third hearing, the committee focused on ways to reduce the administrative burden on doctors and hospitals, and at the fourth hearing, the committee focused on finding ways to improve access to information about the cost and quality of health care for patients.
The fifth hearing of the series will take place on Wednesday, November 28th and will focus on finding ways private sector innovation could make health care more affordable for Americans.
