Alexander Votes Against “Long-term Raid on Social Security Funding”

Posted on December 2, 2011

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement about his vote against two bills introduced to extend the current one-year holiday on the payroll tax, which is paid by both employees and their employers to fund Social Security:

“These proposals would turn a one-time tax holiday into a long-term raid on Social Security funding, threatening its solvency. Instead, we should strengthen Social Security so seniors and future generations can rely on it.”
