WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN), chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy, made the following statement today after voting for cloture on S. 3711, the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act: “This vote moves us one step closer to a victory for Tennessee chemical workers, autoworkers, farmers and homeowners,” said Alexander, a cosponsor of the bill. “New supplies of natural gas will lower gas prices and help keep jobs from going overseas. This is the unfinished business of last year's comprehensive energy bill.” The Senate voted 72 to 23 to invoke cloture on the bill, allowing for a vote on final passage later this week.
