“For most American workers, Tax Day is a frustrating reminder that our federal government is trying to do too much —and it’s increasingly dipping into middle-class family budgets to pay for all of its spending.” Lamar Alexander

WASHINGTON, April 14, 2015 – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today made the following statement ahead of Tax Day:

“For most American workers, Tax Day is a frustrating reminder that our federal government is trying to do too much —and it’s increasingly dipping into middle-class family budgets to pay for all of its spending. Obamacare is a prime example. This is the first Tax Day on which millions of Americans will learn the hard way that Obamacare raised taxes in addition to premiums and other health care costs. If you couldn’t afford the expensive coverage now mandated by the government but earned too much for a subsidy, you’ll be paying the IRS a penalty this year. If you’re among the millions of Americans whose Obamacare subsidies were calculated incorrectly by the government, your tax bill could be higher this year. The list of ways Obamacare could raise your tax bill goes on and is one more reminder that Obamacare took our health care system in the wrong direction.”
