WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, today made the following remarks about the bipartisan debt commission’s proposal:

“This report is a serious proposal by serious people about our biggest problem. Congress can’t keep running around complaining about the debt and not doing anything about it. Their recommendations need to come before Congress, and I’m going to do my best to support recommendations like these. I may want to change it, but I’m going to be among those that say, ‘This is serious, let’s deal with it.’”
