“General Petraeus’ plan for improving security has worked. Now more troops are coming out of Iraq than going in, and the time our troops spend deployed will be reduced.” – Lamar Alexander *** Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, released the following statement on the announcement that troop deployments will be shortened from 15 months to 12 months beginning this August: “Shorter deployments for our men and women in uniform are good news for our troops and for those here at home who love and miss them. General Petraeus’ plan for improving security is working. Now more troops are coming out of Iraq than going in, and the time our troops spend deployed will be reduced. We are working to ease the strain on our military while shifting security responsibility to the Iraqi government. Tennesseans are incredibly proud of our 101st Airborne’s contribution, and this announcement is good news for the Fort Campbell community. Every American should thank our servicemen and women – as well as their families – for their tremendous sacrifice by continuing to find ways to support them.” ###
