Alexander Statement on Nuclear Workers National Day of Remembrance

Posted on October 30, 2014

MARYVILLE, Oct. 30, 2014 – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement in recognition of the National Day of Remembrance for nuclear weapons program workers:

“Today we honor the sacrifice of those Americans who have selflessly worked, often behind-the-scenes, to support our nation’s nuclear efforts,” said Alexander. “In Tennessee, tens of thousands of workers have paid a high price to work countless hours with hazardous materials to build our nation’s nuclear defense. Today, we recognize the patriotism of these men and women in Tennessee and across the nation who have quietly sacrificed for our safety and freedom.”

In April, Alexander introduced a resolution to designate Oct. 30, 2014, as the sixth National Day of Remembrance for nuclear weapons program workers, which passed the Senate unanimously in July. The Day of Remembrance honors all Americans, including tens of thousands of Tennessee men and women, who have supported the nation’s nuclear efforts since World War II.
