Alexander: President’s Bill “Still Raises Taxes, Premiums; Cuts Medicare”

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) made the following statement after President Obama announced his version of health care legislation:

“The president’s proposal still raises taxes, raises premiums, and cuts Medicare to spend the money on new programs.  The spotlight should be on the House of Representatives: if the House passes the health care bill approved by the Senate on Christmas Eve, it will go directly to the president to become law, leaving House members to trust the Senate to fix it.  President Obama today asked House Democrats to hold hands and jump off a cliff and hope Senator Harry Reid will catch them.  Unfortunately, Senator Reid will have little incentive to, because the president will have already signed the Senate bill into law.”
