Alexander Votes Against Senate Majority Leader’s Bill: “This Is a Partisan Proposal”

Posted on July 31, 2011

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, today released the following statement on his vote against Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid’s bill to raise the debt ceiling:

“This is a partisan proposal with blue smoke and mirrors that counts one trillion dollars in savings from money not spent on wars we might not fight. Hopefully the Democratic Leader will spend his time today working with the Republican Leader to produce a realistic, bipartisan proposal to reduce our debt and honor our financial obligations.”
