Alexander Votes Against “$93 Billion Raid on Social Security”

Posted on February 17, 2012

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement about his vote against the Conference Report for H.R. 3630, the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2011:

“This agreement is a $93 billion raid on Social Security. It extends what was supposed to be a one-time tax holiday without providing a plan to restore the funds, a short-sighted step that threatens the program’s solvency at a time when we should be working together to strengthen Social Security for seniors and future generations.”
