“Keeping American consumers – especially children – safe from harmful products should be a top priority.” *** Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, today released the following statement on his vote in support of the Consumer Product Safety Commission Reform Act: “Keeping American consumers – especially children – safe from harmful products should be a top priority. I’m pleased the Senate has passed bipartisan legislation that increases the staff and resources of the Consumer Product Safety Commission and includes stiffer penalties for those who violate our laws. While the bill isn’t perfect, I’m hopeful that concerns raised by the business community and others will be addressed as the legislative process moves forward.” The Consumer Product Safety Commission Reform Act (S. 2663) passed the Senate by a vote of 79 to13. It will now be reconciled with a similar bill that passed the House of Representatives in December by a vote of 407 to 0. ###
