U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander joined other members of the Tennessee Congressional Delegation Tuesday in asking U.S. Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns to issue an agricultural disaster declaration for all 95 Tennessee counties after a devastating crop freeze. “It’s too early to know the exact extent of the damage, but it’s already clear that a wide range of farmers across the state have suffered major losses,” Alexander said. “That’s what disaster-relief programs were created for, and it’s important to get the administrative process rolling so that farmers can be compensated in a timely way once we know exactly how many crops were lost.”
