ALEXANDER, DAVIS APPLAUD ANNOUNCEMENT ON NEW NUCLEAR INFORMATION POLICY

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Congressman David Davis (R-TN-01) today issued the following statements after the announcement by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission that the commission has changed its policy to provide more access to information on Nuclear Fuel Services Inc. in Erwin, Tennessee. This announcement from the NRC comes after Senator Alexander and Congressman Davis toured the Unicoi County facility last week and advocated a more open policy on information related to safety.

“This is a positive step forward,” said Alexander. “The decision by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission will allow the people of Erwin and Unicoi County to know what's happening in their community while preserving our national security.”

“The decision by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to allow for timely disclosure is a beneficial step for the people of Unicoi County and the surrounding area,” Davis said. “Nuclear Fuel Services (NFS) has been a good corporate citizen and this decision will help them to better communicate with the public without infringing upon our national security.”
