Statement of Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) on President Bush's Principles for Economic Stimulus

“To provide a real stimulus, government action should be swift, temporary and sufficiently large to make a difference. I'm chairing a retreat of Republican senators on Wednesday where Treasury Secretary Paulson will meet with us so that we can determine what specific steps are most appropriate. I prefer actions that will put more money into the hands of individual Americans and employers so that we grow the economy - not the government."
