WASHINGTON, November 27, 2018 – United States Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement after the Senate confirmed Tennessean Stephen Vaden to be general counsel at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA):

“Stephen Vaden grew up on a family farm in Union City, Tennessee where his father was a farmer, so he has hands-on experience for this job. He attended Vanderbilt University and Yale Law School, and he practiced law at two distinguished Washington firms. Based on his experience on his family’s farm, his strong academic credentials, his mentorships and his legal experience -- both in the private sector and at USDA over the last few months, he’s very well-qualified to serve as the Department of Agriculture’s General Counsel. I’m glad the Senate confirmed his nomination today.”

On November 9, Alexander introduced Vaden at his confirmation hearing before the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry.
