Alexander Votes Against Amendment to Remove Detainee Provisions From Defense Authorization Bill

Posted on November 29, 2011

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement on his vote against an amendment introduced by Senator Mark Udall (D-Colo.) to strip provisions regarding the handling of detainees from the defense authorization bill:
“This amendment would have given enemy combatants captured while trying to wage war against the United States the same rights as American citizens caught breaking the law here at home, a policy I am convinced would weaken our ability to stop terrorism against the U.S.”
