STATEMENT OF SEN. LAMAR ALEXANDER ON MEDICARE PART D VOTE

Posted on April 18, 2007

“Fortunately, the Senate has refrained from fooling with the new Medicare prescription drug benefit that 80 percent of seniors are happy with. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office says the Democratic proposal wouldn’t save any more money because the existing system provides for competition and private plans are negotiating lower prices and doing a better job than the government could do. Seniors are already paying less than expected – only $22 per month rather than $38. 35 percent of veterans have already signed up for this new successful program because so many more drugs are available than under the VA system.”
