Alexander Votes to Extend Flood Insurance, Tax Benefits and Cut Deficit by $68 Billion

Posted on June 17, 2010

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement regarding his vote in favor of the Thune Amendment to extend expiring unemployment provisions through November and extend various expired tax provisions through 2010:

“This is a vote to extend tax credits, benefits to unemployed Americans, and the flood insurance program, which is particularly important to Tennesseans affected by last month’s thousand-year rain event—and it reduces the deficit by $68 billion.  Republicans have offered several measures to do exactly these things without adding to the debt, but the Democratic majority seems determined to borrow even more money that we don’t have.”
