Alexander Opposes Starting on Defense Bill Until Congress Stops January Tax Hike

Posted on December 9, 2010

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement on his vote against moving S. 3454, the Defense Authorization bill, to the Senate floor for debate:

“Next year’s tax forms are already being printed and nearly every American will pay higher taxes starting in January if Congress doesn’t act now to keep rates from going up. Republicans have made it clear that preventing a massive tax hike and funding the government are our top priorities and that we’d be glad to consider bills such as the Defense Authorization bill only after we’ve done those two things.”
