U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander made the following statement Wednesday following his vote against legislation that would have increased deficit spending by $250 billion in order to correct physician reimbursement rates under Medicare: "As the first vote on health-care reform, it would have been absolutely wrong to add a quarter of a trillion dollars to the national debt. Of course doctors' reimbursement needs to be fixed, but it cannot be done in a way that adds to the debt."
