Alexander Says Budget Puts U.S. on Fast Track to Doubling National Debt

U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today made the following statement regarding the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) report on President Obama’s proposed budget: “The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office says President Obama’s budget would spend more than even he anticipated—$500 billion more next year alone. This puts us on a fast track to doubling our national debt in just five short years. The president’s budget spends too much, taxes too much, and borrows too much. What we need is a budget that does more for taxpayers than for Washington bureaucrats. Both parties should work together to fix this budget so it focuses on our economy’s most urgent needs: jobs and financial security.”
