Alexander Calls On Congress to Lift Offshore Drilling Ban

Posted on June 18, 2008

U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today issued the following statement after the president called on Congress to lift the federal ban on offshore drilling: “To lower $4-per-gallon-and-climbing gas prices, we have to honor the law of supply and demand. That means we have to find more, as well as use less. Republicans are ready to do both – to find more and to use less – and Democrats are not. “More American energy now would help lower the price of gasoline. States should be able to explore for more oil offshore, just as four states already do along the Gulf Coast. That would give money to the states for education, conservation, and to take care of their beaches. “We’re also ready to use less. We’re ready to support emerging technologies, like plug-in electric cars, to gain American clean energy independence. “So the difference between Republicans and Democrats is that we understand the law of supply and demand, and they don’t. We’re ready to find more oil and to use less oil. They’re only ready to do half of that.”
