Posted on June 2, 2011

One of Tennessee's most famous senators welcomed a successor to his hometown on Thursday.

Former US Senator Howard Baker hosted current senator Lamar Alexander in Scott County to talk about ways to bring in more jobs.

Scott County has the highest unemployment in the state. Alexander said the area has a lot to offer including good access to the interstate and good schools.

He laid out a few ideas for how to create more jobs. "Number one, trying to attract more auto industries. Auto suppliers to scott county. Good location and they already have one good strong supplier," said Alexander.

Alexander said he'd also work with the Governor to bring jobs by focusing on natural gas they have in Scott County.

He also pointed out the area has a lot of infrastructure other rural counties don't have.
