Memphis Daily News: Trump Nominates Norris, Parker to Memphis Federal Court Bench

President Donald Trump has nominated state Senate Republican Leader Mark Norrisand Memphis attorney Tommy Parker to be the two newest judges in Memphis federal court, according to U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander of Tennessee.

Trump announced the nominations Thursday, July 13, among several nominations to the federal bench – all of which go to the U.S. Senate for confirmation. It also comes the same day that the Senate confirmed former Tennessee Commissioner of Economic and Community Development Bill Hagerty of Nashville as the new U.S. ambassador to Japan.

Norris’s nomination had been rumored for months as Norris has also been considering a bid for the Republican nomination for Tennessee Governor in 2018. Norris has been an attorney for more than 30 years including during his tenure as a state Senator and before that as a Shelby County commissioner.

Parker is a shareholder at Baker Donelson and before that served as an assistant U.S. Attorney for almost a decade. He is a former president of the Memphis Bar Association as well.
