Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander was in the area on Friday making a couple of stops.
Although Lamar Elementary School isn't named after the senator, he was glad to field questions from students about everything from how long he played football in middle school to why he isn't running for president.
The senator says this school holds a special memory for him.
"I was glad to do it because when I walked across the state to be elected governor, I came right up Highway 107, turned left toward Jonesborough, and walked right by Lamar School," he said.
Sen. Alexander visited the school after being invited by an eighth grade student.
